How Dental Sealants Work

Dental sealants work by filling in the grooves on the chewing surfaces of your back teeth. This prevents food and bacteria from getting trapped in those hard-to-reach places and causing cavities. Sealants are usually made from plastic or another type of dental material, and they're applied directly to the tooth enamel.

Sealants can last for several years before they need to be reapplied, but it's important to continue practicing good oral hygiene habits like brushing twice a day and flossing daily. Sealants are not a replacement for brushing and flossing – they're just an extra layer of protection against cavities.

TMJ

Temporomandibular Joint (TMJ) disorders are conditions affecting the jaw joints and surrounding muscles and ligaments.

Your temporomandibular joint is a hinge that connects your jaw to the temporal bones of your skull, which are in front of each ear. It lets you move your jaw up and down and side to side, so you can talk, chew, and yawn.

Wisdom Tooth

Wisdom teeth erupt from the age of 18-25. Depending on the type and severity of impacted teeth, you may need wisdom teeth removed anywhere around the age of 17-18.

It’s possible to remove wisdom teeth at any age; however, serious complications in surgery are less likely in young adults in their teens and early 20s since the undeveloped wisdom tooth roots and a less dense jaw bone make removal easier.

Inlays

Inlays and onlays are custom-made fillings used in teeth that have been damaged by decay or trauma. An inlay restoration is used to repair damage to the tooth’s biting surface. Onlays are utilized when both the tooth’s biting surface plus one or more of the chewing cusps requires repair.

Porcelain inlays and onlays are very effective and highly durable. With proper care, they will last much longer than conventional fillings. However, as with most dental restorations, they may someday require replacement.
